About...
This website is a work-in-progress, a sort of community journal of R&D. It is written by an online community of students (including myself), students - helping - students; it is not Teaching. My hope is that the alternative views expressed here will invigorate practitioners to continue to explore deeply, both in terms of view and practice.
Please note the Fundamental Gaps to this website.
The "No Guarantee" Guarantee (Let's get the disillusionment over with right now.)
I don't want anyone feeling surprised or betrayed when they find that one, some, or all of the authors of this site have only partial knowledge or worse, partial achievement or worse, are in-process, and struggling. We're alive, we're human.
As for myself, I feel that I get glimpses into some profound parts of the path, but I've not achieved what I'd consider Basic Stability - and that's a challenge for me on every level. I know a little bit, but I've a lot more confusion and under-development than I'd like (if you know me personally, you'll know that I'm not just making humble talk). I've been around for a while, I write clearly, and online that too-easily gets mistaken for "jade bones" or something.
So, if you're looking for guarantees that the thoughts and methods on this site are Aligned and Functional, forget it, or even assurances that anything here reliably produces beneficial results, the presence of a certificate of authenticity, Lineage, Teacher... none of that is here.
I sincerely caution you. There are difficulties and risks. It is clear to me that most men who take up the sexual practices, especially, end up causing themselves, in the long term, much more damage than good. The field is loaded with mis-information. Genuinely good guidance along those lines is extremely difficult to find and, once found, difficult to accomplish.
This site is students - helping - students. Practice discernment: don't take any level of reliability for granted. There are good arguments that this site shouldn't be here at all; I have periodically struggled with this issue, and still do. Still, also, it is my hope that the site is of some moderate benefit.
In all of the classic traditions, it's a truism that association with Enlightened Cause makes the difference as night to day. Certainly don't let this site hinder your interaction with Genuine Help.
Will this work? Is it difficult?, risky?
How reliable and complete is the popularly available body of knowledge?
Balance and Harmony
Balance and harmony are key words when approaching this work; do not do these exercises to excess. If you feel discomfort from a practice, take a rest from it. People vary: listen to your own body. These exercises are not meant to be pushed or forced through. They are meant to gradually bring harmony to the body. If they don't, consider adjustments.
Also, an exercise regimen based solely on qi gong is usually not healthy: include regular time for general physical exercise. I've found that it's helpful to look at my general exercise regimen with the somewhat altered set of categories of cardio, strength, connective tissue, and core.
Attentiveness and discernment toward balance and harmony somewhat buffers risks.
Who?
This website is a community project of students helping students; it is not Teaching. Also, the inclusion of one author's writing in this website does not imply that author's agreement with anything else in the website.
Much of this website is the product of a period, circa 1998-2004, during which a number of students shared and compared information, experience, techniques, break throughs, via an online discussion site; a spontaneous cyber-sangha, of sorts. It could be seen that students tended to have the same difficulties, and there was a sort of group parallel processing that was very progressive.
There is no $ income associated with products promoted by this site. Though I do recommend some products (books, etc.), I receive no money from any resulting purchases.
I've been studying meditation since 1986; I’ve had an eclectic path. I’m just a guy sharing some knowledge. I am certainly not claiming that this knowledge is complete, nor that it is correct for everyone. It is my humble opinion that it’s useful, but I encourage you to really understand it and evaluate it for yourself, and to see if it is right for your body.
