A Note about Links to Books (and other Products)

Amazon.com's Associates Program

I joined Amazon.com's Associates program, which is what is generally going on when a website shows links to Amazon's products.  Amazon.com pays out referral fees of up to %15 for links to specific books, and around %5 for items bought when when coming through an Associates site, but not linked to the product specifically.  You pay nothing extra, same Amazon prices as always.  It's good advertising for Amazon.com, so it's worth it for them.

It's convenient for user's of this website to have the links, so they're here.  But I really don't want the money; this site is not about making money; it's about service.  Also, this website is non-affiliated; I don't want money interests to bias the view on which item, service, or practice might be most helpful.  So, I set it up so that any of the money generated by Amazon.com purchases gets sent to the United Nations World Food Programme (the check gets sent directly to them, it doesn't pass through my hands), for the relief of world hunger.

A few facts on hunger, pulled from The Hunger Site

Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger.  Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.

About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes.  This is down from 35,000 ten years ago, and 41,000 twenty years ago.

Often it takes just a few simple resources for impoverished people to be able to grow enough food to become self-sufficient.  These resources include quality seeds, appropriate tools and access to water.  Small improvements in farming techniques and food storage methods are also helpful.

Products from other Sources

There is no money exchange, nor any other sort of formal arrangements, for links to products (books, videos, etc.) from sources other than Amazon (such as the Healing Tao, or Dr. Lin's products, and so on).
