Fundamental Gaps,
and miscellaneous.
This section covers aspects of practice that are common and fundamental, yet (largely) missing from the Healing Tao system. Also, some miscellaneous issues, and aspects of practice that are (largely) missing from this website.
Stillness Meditation - "follow the breath"
important for keeping free flow
Taoism is a practical combination of arts that integrates a broad spectrum of human experience:
The internal
martial arts integrate heaven~human~earth powerfully. (I would include
in that statement, various of the Taoist physical wisdom disciplines, such as
moving qi gong and Taoist yoga.)
Classical
Chinese medicine is a serious, technical, wholistic healing system.
The combination of Taoist philosophy and meditation is deep enough
to be beyond words, yet broad enough to include detail.
While a Taoist teacher might emphasize any one of these aforementioned paths, I would suggest that formidable training and accomplishment in all of these areas would be requisite for prominent Taoist leaders (and many senior students) in a culture that has a truly functional level of Taoist wisdom-arts. Clearly, popular-Taoism is not at that level of maturity, yet. It is up to the students of this and the following generations to deepen the cultural basis of wisdom, for the benefit of nature and humanity.
medicine first,
then wisdom.
This website is a "students helping students" expression of "modern informational Taoism". As such, this website is simply not the following very important things, which must be mentioned as larger proper contexts.
Heaven~Human~Earth integration through a Taoist Internal Martial Art
The three internal martial arts of Taoism: Tai ji, Bagua, and XingYi. Any of which must be learned from an accomplished teacher in person, over a long period of time, in order to learn to a depth that is anywhere near justice to the actual profundity of these arts. Teachers, who are truly accomplished in an art and who are skilled at teaching, are not always easy to find.
Enlightenment Path
While individual work is essential, there are depths of development toward Realization that are available only through association with a Realized Teacher (who is aligned with a Celestial Realized Lineage). Choice of Teacher & Lineage is an intensely personal matter - and this topic is mentioned with great respect towards each individuals' choices. (Same comment on availability of teachers as above.)
"The daoist practices also require an initiation from a teacher. Without proper awakening of the pure Yang, a daoist technique, learnt from books is like trying to cook soup with a lighted match."
- Hagar, discussion participant
I give no direct links to resources for the above two topics, for several good reasons. One of which is respect for individual choice (these sorts of choices are deeply personal, and choice is properly each individual's domain of navigation - by a wide margin). Another of which is absolutely non-sectarian respect, "reverence" is not too strong a word, for the variety of Vehicles that have Grace (or simply effective teaching) running through them. Even within the relatively narrow scope of the Taoist internal martial arts, there's no way that I could provide a small fraction of a respectably comprehensive resource guide. What I can say, is that these sorts of resources are essential.
